Festival is also something visitors look forward to. In the city it holds exotic annual events such as the well-known Songkran and Loy Kra-thong.
Songkran Festival (13-15 April)
In celebration of the Thai New Year, an age old tradition of being blessed by having a small amount of water poured over one’s hands has evolved to new heights, with buckets of water being thrown at you, all in the spirit of Songkran. Khao San Road becomes the center of this activity. Fireworks are also displayed in many spots in the city.
Loy Kra-thong (around end of November)
It is a celebration that gives thanks to the water spirit who has given life. During the full moon, you may participate by floating a “kra-thong” in a canal or river.
Chinese New Year (around end of January until beginning of February)
Every year, a big celebration featuring lion and dragon dances and fireworks with food stalls lining the streets is held in China Town.
